Disciplines
Olga de Soto is a choreographer, dancer and dance researcher, born in Valencia (Spain) and based in Brussels.
The choreographer's work focuses on the themes of memory, imprint and transmission, and unfolds around two axes. The first is centered on the study of the performer's kinesthetic memory, through the creation of works of different formats, aiming for a pluralistic approach to dance and the body, in pieces such as Murmures, … des rhizomes…, Éclats mats, the series of accompanied solos INCORPORE ce qui reste dans mon coeur, Mirage or Mirage – déplacement. The second axis explores works from the History of Dance in a process governed by the study of perceptive memory, that of spectators and dancers. The resulting projects assert the importance of processes and pay particular attention to the document, to documentation work, to testimony, to the archive and to the oral source, to the story and to the narration, notably in shows such as histoire(s), An Introduction, Overflow or again, (She) retains. These projects question the impact of live art, its usefulness and its permanence. They are interested in the spectator's experience and in the anthropology of the show, while developing within an approach that studies the aesthetic experience from the oral history of the works.
Olga de Soto's work has been presented in about twenty countries. For several years, Olga has been regularly invited to intervene in the academic field where she shares her body research work and her research and documentation methodology, in universities in Europe, Latin America and more recently in the United States.
In 2013, Olga de Soto received the SACD Live Show Award for her show Overflow / Reflections on The Green Table, as well as for her entire career. Her show Mirage was nominated for the Maeterlinck Critics' Awards (Belgium), in the Best Dance Show category, in 2019.
