Benoît Nieto Duran

Disciplines

A self-taught dancer-choreographer specializing in break-dance, Benoît Nieto Duran was born in Liège (BE) in 1990 and currently resides in the same city.

In 2006, he joined the group "OPB" with which he represented Belgium around the world in competitions (battles). After winning numerous titles, both as a group and solo, including the "Best Belgian B-boy of the Year 2011" award, he decided to turn to the world of creation and dance-theatre for more freedom in terms of movements and interpretations.

Trained in Break-dance from a young age, he quickly became interested in art and contemporary dance, which led him to develop an atypical method of working and researching movement, characterized by an "animal" style. Benoît is nourished by his various artistic collaborations in various sectors, whether in train station halls, the stage of the Royal Opera of Wallonia, theaters or museums. He has worked with many artists and professional companies, including Cie Okus Lab, the Royal Opera of Wallonia, Exzeb company, Luc Petit creation, Cie Victor B, HipOrgue, Nono Battesti, Julien Carlier, Cie Happy Brothers, Lila Magnin, Julie Bougard, Pitcho Womba Konga...

In 2019, he created the Manima Dance Company with the ambition of promoting a unique choreographic language of its kind, by deconstructing the gestures and codes of break-dance, and then created and performed his first solo Protean in 2021. Following this, he was selected by the Théâtre de Liège for support over the 2023 and 2024 seasons as a choreographer to create his second piece; a duo on the theme of "elsewhere", which he will dance accompanied by Nino Patuano as part of Liège Danse DiverCity.
