Loraine Dambermont is a Belgian artist-choreographer born in Liège and based in Brussels. She has a particular fondness for the power of precision in movement and stages hyperactive choreographies that she channels through a complex and meticulous musical structure.
After training at Codarts and Teaterschool – Dance and Arts Academies of Rotterdam and Amsterdam – she developed a unique style, striving to create explosive energy. Her journey is a mix of different techniques; from hip-hop dance to contemporary dance, with a particular focus on popping and floor work.
In 2013, she won a choreography award for Buy My City, a duo with Noora Hannula; a decisive encounter in her professional career.
As a performer, she danced for a long time within the Companies 1 des si / Etienne Rochefort (FR) and The Nordic Beasts / Noora Hannula (DK). In parallel, she worked, among others, with Michèle Anne De Mey (Be), Itamar Serussi Sahar (IL), Beppie Blankert (NL), Mute Comp. Physical theater (DK) and recently Leslie Mannès (BE).
The real turning point in her career as a choreographer was her latest creation (2021) titled Always from a 3⁄4 angle!, a one-woman show selected for Aerowaves Spring Forward Twenty23 which is currently enjoying a substantial international tour, with over 60 dates scheduled in about twenty countries to date.
She is currently working on a new creation, the first writing, choreographic research and musical composition residencies of which began in the fall of 2023.
For a year now, she has been supported by BLOOM Project which now takes care of the development, production and distribution of her projects.
"It is thanks to overwhelming encounters and rich artistic experiences that still inspire me today in my relationship with dance and the stage, that I have ended up developing my choreographic identity and asserting its uniqueness.
I describe my dance today as being "explosive". I like to engage the body in a dazzling way and I have a particular fondness for the power of precision in movement. I create hyperactive choreographies that I stubbornly channel through a meticulous musical structure. I work with a constant (hyper) activity of the body as if to show the urgency of getting into motion. "
