Ingrid von Wantoch Rekowski / Lucilia Caesar

Founded by IvWR in 1994, Lucilia Caesar is a theatrical creation laboratory conducted in close collaboration with close and involved artists. At the crossroads of genres and codes, its projects question the conventions of representation and are characterized by an imaginative and radical musical language. This language has been able to impose itself thanks to the complicity of important partners - theaters, operas, festivals, museums - with whom the company has collaborated over the past twenty years. Created mostly in Belgium, the performances of Lucilia Caesar have been presented among others in France, Germany, Austria, Italy and Brazil.

The company's goal is to capture the human through its contradictions and excesses. For Lucilia Caesar, the essence of theater lies in the tension between the sublime and the grotesque, the mythical and the everyday, in the details, the interstices, the atrociously laughable situations, the strangely threatening banalities. This theater of slippage and shift can arise anywhere, and often in the most unexpected places. Thus, a painting, a musical work or a legend becomes a new theatrical form and, in the primary sense of the word, iconoclastic. Each performance therefore offers a new perspective, soliciting the participation of the viewer, arousing his surprise, provoking his emotion - and often his laughter.
