DAS FRAULEIN (KOMPANIE)
Disciplines
Established in 2008, Das Fräulein (Kompanie) was designed to develop and promote the work of Belgian artist Anne-Cécile Vandalem. The theatrical creations that emanate from it are original works for which the artist takes charge of the conception, writing, and realization. Das Fräulein (Kompanie) is currently contracted by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
It was in 2003 that Anne-Cécile Vandalem began her work writing shows Zaï Zaï Zaï Zaï (2003) and Hansel and Gretel (2005) in collaboration with Jean-Benoit Ugeux. From then on, fiction became the author's preferred form.
From 2008 to 2013, the dwelling plays the main role. It is considered the ultimate place of confinement, through which and with which everything happens. Starting from an ultra-realistic universe, she defined the framework of alleged domestic tragedies both individual with (SELF)SERVICE (2008 Théâtre de Vidy-ETE (Lausanne)), familial with HABIT(U)ATION (2010 Théâtre de Namur (Be) and Kunstenfestivaldesarts 2011) and collective with After the Walls (Utopia) (National Theatre of the French Community of Brussels (Be), as part of the Kunstenfestivaldesarts 2013). These shows make up the Trilogy of Parentheses.
Alongside this Trilogy, she creates, in collaboration with sound engineer Brice Cannavo, MICHEL DUPONT, reinventing the opposite of the world, a sound show for adults and teenagers.
In 2014, Anne-Cécile Vandalem began exploring the modalities of posture and imposture. She questions the capacity for action and transformation of reality of a subject/individual within the different societal spheres and addresses the issue of unveiling and fragility as an honest and/or strategic posture within her writing. Her creations WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU?, Still too sad to tell you and TRISTESSES each testify in their own way to these new aesthetic concerns.
