Michèle Noiret

Disciplines

Michèle Noiret is a recognized artist in the world of contemporary dance in Belgium and abroad. A true pioneer, she introduced interactive sound and image technologies into her choreographies as early as the 1990s, questioning our perceptions of time and space. Critic Gérard Mayen was the first, in 2003, to use the term "dance-cinema" to describe her work.

From one creation to another, the choreographer likes to blur the lines and sow confusion. She reinvents and deepens the concept of "dance-cinema" through the recurring questioning of movement, music, light, and image. Through these multiple languages and their meticulous arrangement, the artist explores humanity, its flaws, its desires, and the chaotic world that is ours. Her dance reveals a writing style that is both fragile and strong, supported by rigorous and inventive research, carried by performers, true "choreographic characters".

Trained at Maurice Béjart's Mudra school, she founded her own company in Brussels in 1986. She is the author of nearly forty choreographies which notably include commissions for the Ballet of the Paris Opera, the Ballet of Nancy and the Ballet of Marseille.

An associate artist at the National Theatre of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation from 2006 to 2017, at the Les Tanneurs Theatre from 2000 to 2006, and regularly supported by the National Theatre of Chaillot in Paris, her Brussels-based Company is now independent. It is subsidized by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, Dance Service.

Michèle Noiret is a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium.
