Théâtre d'un Jour
LINKED BY MUSIC AND VISUAL ARTS, T1J’S CREATIONS FOCUS ON THE SAME QUESTION : WHAT IS THE ROLE OF MAN IN THIS WORLD?
The troupe was born in 1994 and celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2015.
Since 2008 “Théâtre d’un Jour” has been vehemently supporting “creation art”. The troupe has constantly been using transdisciplinarity with a constant willing to question what is real. Its questioning is centered on everyone’s place in the “society”.
Given the extreme diversity and complexity of our world I think that merging and confronting different disciplines and practitioners is a more and more credible way to take up an artistic work.
Therefore a huge amount of work directed towards resistance and even fight gives its whole meaning to our current project.
Jan Goosens emphasized this very well when he rendered an homage to Gerard Mortier : “Being suspicious towards great cultural strongholds is easier than rebuilding them. Ambitionless and politico-social artistic adventures are nothing but vanity. A love-hatred relation with your own domain of activity offers you the best guarantee ever: you gain a life-long notion of vigilance. These are lessons you will remember forever”.
Otherwise it seems obvious that a brand new production and diffusion formula is to appear very soon. It’s up to us to invent it, to master it, to make it develop and to share it to the world. Today’s notion of creation is larger and more essential than a plain room where repetition and want meet.
We believe that the role of the artist has never been him chained by the world and its numerous transformations. We rather think that he has to foresee them and anticipate them. The speed imposed on us by Wall Street and the Internet is nothing in comparison with our power of creation and invention. Just as in martial arts we have to take this energy and use it to our advantage.
T1J currently works towards this objective.
